I did  it  because my parents don’t have a stable work and their income is hardly enough for our daily subsistence. I was delighted when my teacher told me I was one of the scholars.”

Kristine wrote us in Tagalog (translated):

“I would like to thank you for your support. Thank you for the school supplies. If we did not receive support from WIMLER, we would not be able to do study well. I am graduating this year and pray that you would be able to help me again. This is all and God bless.”

SCHOOL ASSESSMENT:

As a teacher, you would be annoyed if you give assignments or homework to your pupils and they do not comply. It would irritate you also if they don’t complete their assignments. If he did, it was always late. This was Raul during the start of the school year. He rarely submitted his homework and when I gave tests or other writing activities, Rasul will first borrow ballpen from his classmates, and at the end disturbed the class.

However, when he became WIMLER scholar, Rasul changed considerably. He came to school with complete school supplies. He did not bother his classmates anymore like borrowing ballpen or asking for papers. WIMLER provided him with complete school supplies. He came to school enthusiastically. As a result, his grades improved dramatically. He graduated with honors with average grade of 87. I, his teacher, could hardly believe his transformation.

Darylle wrote us in Ilonggo (translated):

March 16, 2011

“Thank you very much for your support because without this I will not be able to go to school this school year. My father and mother have no regular source of income.

I hope WIMLER can continue to support me now that I am graduating in Grade VI. I like very much to continue with my studies.”

SCHOOL ASSESSMENT:

Daryll, was kind, shy, and timid type and maybe he also lacked self-confidence. He didn’t like to recite or speak before the class. He didn’t contribute to the discussions. He didn’t give his opinion, ideas or suggestions. I tried all means and ways so he could overcome his lack of confidence, or fear to speak before the class.

I was overwhelmingly happy when he was chosen as one the scholars. Little by little, I observed some changes in his attitude. He was so happy to receive school supplies and uniform. From then on, he started to join school activities, and recite before the class. He did well in his subjects and he graduated with an average of 85 with honors.

Being a big boy in the class, Arnel was a bully type. He dominate his classmates. A great transformation occurred after it was announced that he was chosen as one of WIMLER’s scholars. He became a friend to his classmates and even to other pupils in other classes. He helped them in cleaning their assigned part before the bell rang every morning.

When his classmates became unruly, Arnel was the one who would mediate and pacify the group. His grades improved a lot because he studied hard in all subjects. Since he was provided with school uniforms, school bag and school supplies, and his school fees were paid, Julien showed more interest in his studies.

He did not work anymore to earn extra income. He spent his time with his classmates and his homework.

SCHOOL ASSESSMENT:

Armia was very indifferent and passive type. I observed that she didn’t mind whether she will pass the test or not. I always advised her to be serious with her studies. Other subject teachers were also complaining to me about Armia’s attitude.

SCHOOL ASSESSMENT:

Rashied usually came late to school. If not late, he was absent. As a pupil, I found this attitude disturbing. As adviser, I told him to wake up early so he would not be late to his class. I send him to guidance office several times hoping that he would change. At first, he would show some changes but as days went by, he went back to his old behavior.

I learned that his parents would ask him to work first in the farm before going to school and this was the reason why he was always late. Rashied has to work to augment family income so he can go to school, among others. I really sympathized with the boy.

Things changed when he was chosen as one of the recipients of WIMLER. I could still remember the day he received his school supplies and uniform. He was so happy and proud to wear his uniform. Since then, he became active in the class and always came to school on time. He also participated in various school activities. Also I can observe changes in his study habit.

I usually see him reading books and review his notebooks even without scheduled examination. He got high scores. We consider Rashied as an example in our school on how we should support and understand pupils who have problems going to school due to poverty. If we provide them with some support, pupils will work hard.

Rashied graduated in Grade VI and goes to high school if he gets support.
